Gudbrandsdalsost (a type of cheese...it's absolutely indescribable...it's BROWN and looks a bit um...dull =) but it's WONDERFUL cheese... In fact, in our house, we easily go through a LARGE brick of it(almost a kilo) a WEEK). It's very like very mild cheddar with a very very creamy consistency

Tine Ski Queen gjetost cheese in 1/4 kilo (8.8 oz) size at Nelson Cheese Factory in Nelson, WI on the Mississippi River across from Wabasha, MN and the Nelson Cheese House in Eau Claire plus other grocery stores. The Nelson Cheese Factory has a wonderful selection of imported cheeses plus their own delicious cheeses made there. We would encourage you to enjoy the many cheeses for which our state is known during your visit. You can visit many cheese factories in the state and can get a list from the state visitor's bureau (1-800-432-8747 or website at www.travelwisconsin.com).

Norwegian-born Americans often like "ekte" Gjetost, the brown caramel-flavored cheese made of goat's milk. "Ekte" is defined as genuine, real, true in my Norsk/English dictionary. Norwegians probably love this because that is what they grew up on in Norway. In Minneapolis it is imported through Ingebretsen's, a Scandinavian gift shop and food market. This is the "best" according to a rosemaling friend who was born in Norway. She wouldn't even consider eating any other kind. Ski-Queen brand has a milder flavor because of the added cow's milk. Shirley Evenstad, Richfield in Minneapolis, Minnesota
